Crystal Award Categories

WVDO’s Crystal Awards recognize outstanding achievement in fund development. Each award is accompanied by a cash donation to the winner’s charity of choice. Winners are selected by a panel of volunteers from the community.

Awards for Outstanding People

The Barbara Stallcup Miller Professional Achievement Award
2008 Winner: Kay Sohl, TACS

• Lifetime achievement (20+ years) in advancing philanthropy
• Exceptional professional achievements
• Advancement of the development profession

Outstanding Development Officer Award
2008 Winner: Casey Woodward, Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation

• 5+ years experience in development
• Exceptional achievements and service on behalf of the profession
• Significant impact on his/her organization(s)

Amy J. Gerver WVDO Leadership Award
2008 Winner: Cheryl Franceschi

• WVDO member with sustained service on WVDO Board and/or committee(s)
• Exceptional leadership and contribution to WVDO

Starbright Award: Volunteer
2008 Winner: Suzanne Bishop, The Oregon Zoo Foundation

• Volunteer fundraiser who has shown extraordinary commitment and effectiveness during the past year

Starbright Award: Professional
2008 Winner: Kristen Earl

• Recognition for “rising star” in development field (1-5 years experience) who has demonstrated special skills or effort during the past year

Awards for Outstanding Projects
General Criteria (applies to all three awards below):
• Projects completed January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007
• Utilized the normal resources of the organization (Projects implemented entirely by consulting or production firms are ineligible. Outsourced technical work is acceptable provided that the concept, writing, and key message(s) originated with the organization’s staff.)

Outstanding Event Award
2008 Winners: Annual Beaverton Education Foundation Phone Campaign - 2007, Beaverton Education Foundation (operating budget under $500,000) and
Spotlight on Kerr – Century Celebration, Albertina Kerr Centers (operating budget over $500,000)

• Exceeded the goals of the nominated organization as well as the basic development goals of resourcefulness, leveraging of time and funds, engagement and effectiveness
• Made a difference to the whole community, furthered philanthropy, and/or perfectly showcased an organization’s mission
• Two awards will be given: 1) Organizations with budgets less than $500,000 and 2) Organizations with $500,000 or more

Outstanding Donor Communication Award
2008 Winner: Lifetime of Literacy Video, The Library Foundation

• Annual report, case statement, invitation, direct mail appeal, stewardship package, or other publication or mailing
• Outstanding design, creativity, appropriateness to the organization’s mission or the communication’s theme, and effectiveness in conveying desired message (as determined by nominee’s goals)

Outstanding E-Philanthropy Award
• Recognizes a nominated organization that demonstrates excellence in using the Internet and related technologies, such as email, on-line giving, and web site, to advance its fundraising operations.
• Outstanding design, creativity, appropriateness to the organization’s mission or the project’s theme, and effectiveness in conveying desired message (as determined by nominee’s goals)
