2009 Third Thursday Committee - Call for proposals
Willamette Valley Development Officers - 2009 Third Thursday Series
Willamette Valley Development Officers (WVDO) is seeking proposals for the 2009 Third Thursday Series, held on the third Thursday of the month at the Portland YWCA. The Third Thursday series is a no-cost educational program open to the public focused on fundraising and development from an entry level perspective. Diverse presenters are encouraged to apply.
The WVDO Third Thursday Committee will consider compelling presentations from the following broad subject areas:
• Annual Fund
• Basic Presentation Skills for Development Professionals
• Boards and volunteer management
• Capital Campaigns
• Direct Mail
• Corporate and Foundation Relations
• Major Giving
• Planned Giving
• Small Shops
• Special Events
• Stewardship and donor relations
• Prospect Research
Sessions are 90 minutes in length, including presentation and a question and answer period at the end. Proposals from fundraising consultants that involve their clients will be given priority over consultant presentations without clients. Presentations should be based on best practices/ideas that attendees can apply on their own, at their own organizations.
Criteria for selecting presentations include, but are not limited to:
- new or original ideas, or a new or original twist on a tried and true method or practice
- innovative content and/or presentation methods that enhance learning
- action-oriented, involving and engaging the audience
- inclusions of skills that can be applied immediately
- participants should be able to articulate 2-3 tangible learning objectives from presentations
All proposals are due by October 31, 2008. Each proposal will be evaluated by the Third Thursday Committee according to the above criteria. The Committee will choose proposals which best reflect the theme of desired session themes. Presenters will be chosen and contacted in November, 2008.
WVDO Third Thursday is green! Please submit proposals electronically in Word format to rcook@janusyouth.org . Each proposal shall be accompanied by a completed application form (below) and a one page (maximum) synopsis of your presentation. Multiple proposals are welcome by individual presenters, however, each proposal shall be accompanied by a separate application form and a separate synopsis. WVDO reserves the right to solicit presenters for this series outside of the Call for Proposals process.
