Enneagrams:  Knowing Yourself In Order to Lead Others:

Instructor:  Dale Rhodes, M.S., M.A.

 

Using the Enneagram model, participants will determine their leadership style, recognize different styles in other participants and learn how to use these style differences to lead.

This course will provide an overview and in-depth study of the dynamic system of Nine Personality Types and Three Instincts described as the Enneagram. The Enneagram will be explored as an effective resource with both personal and professional applications. Students will receive an assessment tool and written training materials which will enhance the exploration of psychological and spiritual typology. Participants will engage in educational peer inquiry and discussions related to the personality types. Those who understand their own personality type will be invited to join the discussion as a narrative resource on his/her own personality style’s worldview, skills and strengths. Course participants will enjoy an informative group experience of self- and other- discovery with this popular resource.

 

 

Finance 101:  What Leaders Need to Know

Instructor:  Jessica Clark

 

Finance, budget, 990’s, cash flow statements are more are basic tools of executive directors.  Familiarity as well as comfort using these tools, explaining their implications and making decisions from them are key skills of an Executive Director.  Difference between earned income, investment income, b corps and other revenue streams will be reviewed.

This course will focus on these forms as tools of leaders.  Looking at development, reporting and interpretation of financial documents as well as dashboards, metrics and basic investment reporting will be covered.

 

After completing this course, students will:

·         Have an understanding of reporting tools and the rolls of these tools in decision-making

·         Preparation of basic financial reports and interpretation of the results.

·         Difference between nonprofit/for-profit financial statements when looking at varied revenue streams.

·         Creation of an organization dashboard and interpretation overtime.

·         Resources available to a nonprofit when making financial decisions.


Measurement/Program Evaluation

Whether measuring program outcomes, the ROI of a new initiative or the evaluation criteria needed for a grant, data can be an important measure of success in a nonprofit.

Building off the previous session on finance, this course takes the next step of gathering data, analyzing data and using the data to meet the mission of your organization.  Discussions on working with professional evaluators as well as the importance of determining what to measure will be included.

After completing this course, students will:

·         Understand a variety of evaluation/measurement tools.

·         Consider variety of ways that statistical data can help/hurt an organization.

·         Discuss what ROI in a nonprofit can mean and can be measured.

·         Compare similar organizations with different measurements to determine success measures.

1. Auditing Your People Practices

Managing all aspects of an organization is not always intuitive, especially when it is changing or growing.  There are multiple variables at play when it comes to employer compliance and effective talent management.  Conducting an internal HR assessment is a method that allows you to benchmark your current practices, identify areas of exposure, and create an action plan for improvement.  We will discuss what is included in an audit, how to define scope and resources, and strategies for aligning your people practices with organizational priorities.

2.  HR Basics:  Tips & Traps for Organizational Leaders

This interactive session covers important ground rules and tips for managing employer risk – allowing you to be more proactive in hiring, managing and retaining employees.  Whether you are new to a leadership role, or it’s time for an update on current employer requirements, this workshop will arm you with information and tools to put into practice today.

 

Understand key laws and expectations that impact the employment decisions you make

Identify the most commonly misunderstood traps and learn how to avoid them

Learn how to deal with issues head-on and with confidence, garnering the respect of your work group

 

3.  Engagement through Coaching & Feedback

As the economy is improving the market for talent is becoming even more competitive, making it even more important for organizations to hold onto their assets – the greatest being their top talent.  Organizations with highly engaged employees find it easier to attract top talent, enjoy higher levels of employee productivity and experience lower turnover.  A key factor in influencing engagement is an employee’s relationship with their supervisor and the quantity and quality of feedback received.  In this session, we will review the leadership behaviors associated with coaching and feedback, as well as practice a communication model for creating employee ownership for success.

 

Boards

Boards are one of the most talked about aspects of nonprofit leadership!  Whether successful or not, communication, management, transparency, effectiveness are all discussed at length.  This course looks at board management styles and board training options to provide a variety of options to individuals working with and managing boards.

After completing this course, students will:

·         Determine different board governance styles for different situations

·         Role of bylaws, policies, procedure and compliance tools.

·         Understand board training tools for different board styles

·         Role of succession planning in nonprofit management

·         Tools to engage boards in decision-making and discussion

·         Basics of board recruitment

 

Leadership:  Leading from any Chair

Instructor:  Tracey Snoyer

 

Leadership is a quality everyone wishes to have.  However, what does it actually mean and how can it be seen, be measured, be taught and be used?  This session will take the time to talk about the qualities as well as the skills of leadership.  Participants will look at personal and organizational goal setting, coaching, the Exec. Director’s role as a spokesperson/advocate, leading a strategic plan and visioning in the community.

After completing this course, students will:

·         Set individual 1, 3 and 5 year goals

·         Determine how to set goals for an organization

·         Leading through Change

·         Strategic Plans
